The deadline is this evening at 11:45 PM

Last year, the government opened a call for evidence into umbrella companies and asked for help from the entire supply chain. The deadline has approached quickly, and you have until 11:45 PM this evening (Tuesday 22nd February 2022) to participate and share your thoughts, suggestions and experiences with the government.

Participating is easy, and we highly recommend you get involved.

What is the government’s call for evidence into umbrella companies?

As stated on the government’s website, the call for evidence is your chance to help in relation to umbrella companies, how they work and what changes can be made to improve the industry in the future:

“The call for evidence invites views from stakeholders on the role that umbrella companies play in the labour market, and how they interact with the tax and employment rights systems. It sets out the concerns that have been raised by some stakeholders, as well as government action already taken to tackle tax non-compliance and improve protection for workers.”

Why should you participate with the government’s call for evidence into umbrella companies?

There are plenty of reasons you should participate in the call for evidence. Here are just a few:

  • There is no word limit – you can say as little or as much as you would like, so taking part needn’t take long.
  • This type of opportunity is rare – it’s not common for the government to ask the supply chain directly for assistance.
  • The umbrella company sector isn’t perfect and this is an opportunity to revolutionise the sector and to protect temporary workers and the entire supply chain from non-compliance.
  • It’s the perfect opportunity to express your concerns regarding the sector.
  • The call for evidence is open to all of the supply chain. Whether you’re engaged with umbrellas or not, or you represent a recruitment agency or end-hirer – your comments could help.
  • You can respond to the questions outlined in the official document by completing an online survey, or by emailing umbrellacompanyevidence@hmtreasury.gov.uk. Please visit this government web page for more information.
  • Ultimately, the more people who participate, the better and more thorough the results will be. The government clearly has unanswered questions about umbrella companies and this consultation will help them piece together a fair picture of the sector. By participating, you can help the government change the current rules – to add an increased layer of protection for temporary workers and to help put a stop to non-compliant providers from entering the sector.
