Umbrella company contractors working in the manufacturing sector may be pleased to learn that new lucrative opportunities may soon be available with Stagecoach.
The coach firm has announced that it is going to invest in a new fleet of green vehicles. £370 million has been set aside for the new fleet of buses and coaches and this could open doors for contractors who specialise in the biofuel and green vehicle industries.
For the last five years, Stagecoach has spent millions equipping itself with new greener, more environmentally friendly vehicles. A lot of their buses are going to be 100% powered by biofuel and contractors who are skilled in building such vehicles should see increased job opportunities.
Les Warneford, the MD of Stagecoach UK Bus, explained that the latest investment was part of the company’s commitment to provide local communities with good value, high-quality bus travel. Fuel prices are sky high and it is becoming increasing expensive to run a car so it makes sense to change to smarter, greener bus travel, he added.
Companies are coming under increasing pressure to clean up their act and think about the environment. A lot of firms want to be seen to be doing their bit to prevent climate change and contractors with the requisite green skills should have a lot to look forward to.
Meanwhile, contractors north of the border may have noticed an increase in the number of available temporary placements. The Report on Jobs for January, from the Bank of Scotland, discovered that both permanent and temporary placements increased in the first month of the year.
