New research has revealed that the amount of work for freelancers and contractors working in the digital marketing sector has increased significantly.
Official figures recently released by the Internet Advertising Bureau say that firms nearly spent a collective £5.5 billion on digital marketing and advertising efforts in 2012 alone. While this figure is absolutely staggering in and of itself, this actually represents an increase of 12.5 per cent on 2011’s figures, indicating that even in as time of economic uncertainty UK firms are leveraging their marketing budgets – and many companies find the expertise of a skilled and qualified marketing contractor absolutely invaluable for a number of reasons.
Business is positively booming when it comes to online marketing, and the umber of opportunities for digital marketers has been growing by leaps and bounds for years. Around £200 million was spent on online marketing just over a decade a go in 2002, but the scope for internet advertising has grown so large and lucrative that anyone working in this niche sector has been experiencing excellent levels of growth.
Mobile advertising is growing especially fast, and even more so now that smartphones have become so commonplace. An increasing number of Brits now have smartphones, resulting in an 148 per cent increase in mobile advertising spending from 2011 to 2012, with a total of £526 million spent on mobile marketing efforts last year.
Market share for mobile adverts has grown by a factor of ten over just a few short years. In fact, nearly one out of every ten marketing adverts is a mobile advert – a far cry from its nearly nonexistent figures in 2009.
This is absolutely fantastic news for any contract worker or freelancer that routinely works in the marketing or advertising sectors, especially for ones with a high level of facility in online or mobile marketing. A smart marketing campaign has been proven to drive both sales and brand recognition spectacularly, which has led firms to be willing to invest heavily in their marketing efforts.
Now, just because these firms are ready, willing, and able to throw shedloads of cash at a marketing campaign doesn’t mean that they want their money’s worth – and using a contractor or freelancer is often an excellent way to accomplish his. For what it’s worth, contractors are much more flexible than permanent workers and cost less overall to pay, allowing firms to maximise both their marketing budgets and their value for money; in the current economy every little bit helps, and contractors have been diligently working towards providing high-quality, cost-effective marketing solutions for companies quite literally for years now.
