The REC’s latest report on jobs shows that in March growth in temporary placements reached the strongest level for nearly 3 years. This proves the “vital flexibility” that temporary and contract workers, including umbrella company contractors, provide for UK businesses.
Permanent staff appointments through recruitment agencies also increased at the fastest pace since October 1997; a clear sign that the UK jobs market really is reviving.
However the REC has voiced concerns over public sector spending cuts warning that these could impact the jobs market.
Kevin Green, chief executive at the REC, believes that the answer lies in deep-rooted reforms, rather than drastic cuts, to public sector resourcing if the government wants to maintain frontline services. They believe that the recovery could be put at risk if we tighten immigration too much.
