2014 should turn out to be an excellent year for umbrella company contractors, based on latest data pointing to a stable New Year and several months beyond.
There should be no discernible drop-off in hiring rates for contractors and freelancers around the globe as 2013 gives way to the new year at the end of this month, according to one new employment outlook survey. Spanning more than 40 of the largest global economies, the survey found that more than three quarters of these economies were experiencing a positive employment balance – and that the UK was one of those well-situated countries.
This is simply some fantastic news, as far as I’m concerned. For what it’s worth, the UK has been knocked about quite enough for my tastes, especially as a result of the banking crisis and that absolutely deplorable decision to bail out these failing banks with taxpayer funds that should have been going elsewhere. It did nothing but drag the economy into a rather nasty recession, leading to all too many businesses making wide swathes of its workers redundant.
It’s gratifying to know that now, several years after this debacle, that employment figures are starting to trend back upwards. Sure, contractors and freelancers will always tend to be hired thanks to their flexibility, but increases in the overall marketplace mean that contract workers and traditional employees alike will benefit from more opportunities to earn a living, and isn’t that really what’s important nowadays?
