According the REC’s January Jobs Outlook report, over 90% of UK employers are “happy” with the general level of service they are receiving from external recruiters.
Roger Tweedy, the REC’s director of research, said that the figure was positive especially when you consider the difficulties the job market has faced over the last 12 months.
However, despite the impressive results of the latest report, the number of firms saying that they intend to maintain their level of contract staff actually decreased from 77% to 70%. Less than 65% of the survey’s 200 respondents said that the number of temporary workers they use was likely to stay the same.
10% of employers said that they were planning to bolster their permanent headcount over the next quarter whilst 20% said that they believe that the number of permanently employed staff would rise over the next 12 months.
From a jobseekers perspective, it’s worth noting that the employers still believe that communication and interpersonal skills are vital in today’s workforce. According the report, these traits are considered the most sought after among prospective workers, both contract and permanent.
