Contractors with specialised manufacturing and green technology expertise could soon reap the benefits of a newly-approved plan to construct a wind turbine factory on the Isle of Sheppey, it was recently rported.
Swale Borough Council recently approved the plans of wind turbine construction firm Vestas to build the new factory after it extracted promises from the firm to bring employment opportunities to the local labour pool. The company is to hire 8,000 workers by the end of 2012, with another 8,000 to be recruited by the end of the decade under the agreement, and is absolutely keen to break ground on the new project, according to one Vestas company spokesman.
The green technology firm’s representative explained that Vestas was gladdened by the planning permission approval by the borough council, and is looking forward to working together to supporting the local community. However, due to the specialised nature of the work that will be done at the factory, which will require experts in the field of the design and construction of massive wind turbines in order to generate electricity, the need for contractors and freelancers recruited from umbrella companies well-versed in the advanced technologies will undoubtedly be quite high, industry experts predicted.
In related news, there have been calls made by industry leaders to make it easier for those who make and maintain wind turbines to be given an easier time. MEG Renewables said earlier this month that regulatory obstacles barring the path of smaller-sized projects need to be done away with in order to promote the use of green technology in the UK.
