The infrastructure needed to roll out 4G broadband is coming to the UK, and one technology journalist recently said that highly skilled freelancers working with umbrella companies are likely to benefit from the increased demand for their skills.
The introduction of the mobile network will bring not only billions of pounds in investment to the UK but also approximately 125,000 new jobs, according to Michael Brook, who added that businesses and consumers will also soon be able to reap the benefits of an upgraded mobile data transfer network. Mr Brook felt that the lion’s share of the new work opportunities that will soon to be created across the country will most likely appear within the London area, as it is the business hub of the UK.
While the concentration of new roles is likely to exist in the south, the journalist was quick to say that the country-wide initiative to bring 4G everywhere means that there will be an overall bump in the number of jobs available to those with the proper training. The engineering sector will most likely benefit the greatest from the new 125,000 positions, said Mr Brook.
In related news, companies are still finding it a struggle to find sufficient numbers of younger workers to fill gaps in their IT workforce, according to the REC’s technology sector group chief executive, David Pye. Even though the IT industry has been making efforts to involve higher numbers of people within the sector to counteract this, the last five years have seen a dwindling number of younger Brits signing up for computer courses.
