If you’re not having much luck sourcing new clients in your region, you may want to consider casting your eyes far to the fabled north, a new survey recommends.
New research revealed recently by the Bank of Scotland says that the number of vacancies for freelancers and umbrella contractors in Scotland has gone up by a substantial margin. In fact, the bank’s June jobs report said that vacancies are increasing at their fastest rate in nearly two years!
There’s more good news as well, according to the jobs report. Pay rates have also been rising exponentially, and the Bank of Scotland says that the current rate of pay increases are rising better than they have in six years.
This is really good news for anyone looking to grow their own business, whether they’re self-employed as a freelancer or work with an umbrella company but have had little luck increasing their number of clients or projects from their own geographical region. If you ask me, it’s worth a trip to the north to see if you can’t drum up some more business – and let’s not forget that you might not even need to take a trip up there physically, thanks to the advent of mobile working and telecommuting positions!
It’s really a good time to strike whilst the iron is hot when it comes to Scotland, if you ask me. I mean if demand and pay rates are going up so precipitously, it could very well be that the number of interim workers available are dwarfed by the number of Scottish firms with vacancies; this could lead to the sort of skills shortage happening in other parts of the UK, especially in England.
I can’t think of one reason not to give it a go – for what it’s worth, if there’s plenty of well-paying business opportunities in a particular geographical locale, I could care less where it is and what I’d be doing. It’s not like you’d be slaving away on some North Sea oil platform if you don’t want to; yes the oil and gas industry is booming right now in Scotland, but so is just about every other single sector you can imagine.
If you’re looking for a position in the medical field, for example, you’re definitely in luck. My sources say that growth there has been absolutely amazing up in Scotland, creating wonderful opportunities for anyone willing to grasp them!
