Freelancers and umbrella company contractors working in Scotland have the good fortune of working in a stable and strong marketplace, new research says.
Interim workers are increasing their pay rates as the supply of contractors for each available position begins to dwindle, according to new data from the Bank of Scotland. The bank’s latest March jobs report discovered that temporary job vacancies have been growing strong even as availability for contract workers and freelancers drops, creating a high demand for interim workers – and the market has reacted accordingly.
So what exactly does this mean in general? Well it’s a fantastic opportunity for any freelance worker to make a good living north of the border if they’re not located there already. Firms are eager to capitalise on the slowly strengthening economy by expanding their businesses after a long, dark winter of economic blight, only to find that there’s a decidedly low number of skilled and qualified permanent workers – and that’s led these same firms to leverage the contracting community to the fullest.
Of course there’s only so many contract workers in Scotland to go around, and they’re being snapped up at a pretty fast clip. If you ask me this is the perfect opportunity to get your foot in the door if you’re looking to pick up some new clients or start some new clients, so turn your eyes to the North if you’re interested. On top of that, it’s only a matter of time before an influx of freelancers answer the clarion call of Scottish businesses, so I would strike while the iron is hot if you’re looking to get in on the ground floor somewhere. And throw in some more witty aphorisms or mixed metaphors while you’re at it for added effect.
Oh don’t look at me that way. Just get up off your bum and capitalise on this fantastic opportunity before it too passes you by, you lazy gits!
