The UK oil and gas sector is going strongly – so much so that recruitment for contractors in the industry is about to hit a massive bump very soon.
Whether you’re a permanent employee living in the Aberdeen area looking for a new position or you’re an experienced freelancer or umbrella company contractor willing to relocate to the north for the perfect opportunity, get ready for some new action: Statoil’s North Sea head office is about to explode by offering some 200 North Sea head office jobs up for grabs. That’s not all though – its Mariner field production needs another 500 offshore jobs as well.
The field, which has a projected lifespan of some 30 years, has fantastic long-term employment possibilities for nearly anyone interested in either an offshore position or one that supports it back in Aberdeen where the head office is situated. Statoil is investing more than £4 billion in the project as well, and part of that is recruiting the right personnel for the job.
In other words, strike while the iron is hot is what I always say. These positions are sure to be snapped up before too long, and if you’re resting on your laurels now you could end up missing a massive opportunity. You know as well as I do that with the skills shortage still gripping the UK there’s a very real possibility that even temporary workers like contractors and freelancers will be in high demand in order to allow Statoil to close any immediate staffing gaps whilst they look for more permanent solutions, so for heaven’s sake don’t be shy about getting your name out there.
And let’s make no mistake: the skills shortage could very well interfere with Statoil’s permanent employee recruitment goals. The firm is going to need to ramp up its capacity if it wants to stay competitive in the current marketplace – especially the cutthroat competitive North Sea oil and gas sector – and this means you might even have it and other oil and gas firms beating a path to your door if you’re a skilled contract worker! In other words, don’t be a pillock and get your affairs in order. Trust me – would I steer you wrong on something of this magnitude? You’re bloody well right I wouldn’t!
