Only 35% of IT workers in Europe are female according to the latest European survey by the IT Job Board. This could be about to change however as more women are now entering the sector.
Almost half (49%) of women think that working conditions and benefits in the sector could be improved. 51% of UK females believe that there is a disparity between the working conditions of men and women whilst in Belgium, that figure rises to 66%.
90% of European women believe that men and women do their IT jobs equally well and 81% of the survey’s respondents think that the sector should do more to encourage an equal mix of employees.
In the UK, women still feel a sense of the ‘boys club’ and find it difficult to survive in a male dominated environment and almost half think that fewer opportunities are open to them as a result of their sex.
