The Scottish oil and energy sector could soon see a surge of new jobs, thanks to a the Scottish government’s newly set up £10 million fund.
The new scheme, which is just one facet of the government’s strategy to grow the oil and gas sector in Scotland, could bring a surge of contract workers finding positions through recruitment agencies and umbrella service companies, according to employment analysts. Fergus Ewing, Scotland’s energy minister, recently announced the unveiling of the fund’s first stage recently, which is now accepting projects and applications. Those which look to improve both the reliability and integrity of the country’s oil and gas assets will be moved to the front of the line, Mr Ewing added.
The oil and gas sector in Scotland is a world leader, the energy minister added. Oil and gas is poised to remain an the strong levels of economic resource for years if not decades, said Mr Ewing, drawing attention that the potential wholesale value of more than 50 per cent of the North Sea’s gas and oil reserves, a value of £1.5 trilion, is still available for extraction.
There are as many as 24 billion barrels of recoverable oil and gas in the North Sea, just waiting to be tapped, said Mr Ewing. Industry experts say that a major push into the Scottish gas and oil sector could lead to many more contract positions opening up in the very near future, especially if the fund is leveraged successfully.
