It’s bums on seats at most umbrella companies

According to some reports, there are as many as 100,000 umbrella company workers who are predominately based in an office environment, and these are the very people who are set to benefit from a new group established by the REC.

The Office Professional Sector Group (OPSG) has been set-up in an attempt to better understand the nature of office working in this country, and what impact it has on staff moral and productivity. According to the REC, the working group will also provide professional recruiters with a unique insight into their marketplace, which will hopefully enable better channels of communication between contractors and interim workers.

The OPSG is the 5th largest group under REC’s remit and brings together more than 300 recruitment agencies across the country, all of whom work with candidates in business support and back office positions. The REC say that the creation of the OPSG will be instrumental in understanding office-based jobs, which are set grow significantly as the UK claws it’s way out of recession.

Although most umbrella companies have a mix of office and field based employees, it is IT contractors, interim accountants and engineers that generally make up the bulk of an umbrella’s workforce.
