One resources consultancy’s managing director recently went on record by recommending umbrella company services to younger Brits as a way to access the currently moribund jobs market, it was recently revealed.
Most younger people probably wouldn’t think at all to look for work through an umbrella service company, as most will be consumed with finding a traditional, permanent role somewhere in order to eke out a modicum of stability in the currently rocky economic landscape. However, not exploring the possibility of finding employment through such an umbrella company could turn out to be a mistake, says Andrew Pullman, managing director for People Risk Solutions.
The flexibility the freelancing lifestyle offers can be a boon for younger job seekers, according to Mr Pullman; in fact it could be just what the doctor ordered in terms of building work experience and a relevant skillset in the current economic environment. The managing director says that embracing that spirit of flexibility can do wonders when it comes to seeking work by broadening the scope of your jobseeking efforts.
Too many younger Brits take a more traditional approach to jobseeking that simply doesn’t work in the current environment. Applying for a job here and a job there and then waiting patiently for a response that might never come isn’t going to serve a young person, he added, while instead attempting to capitalise on a broader range of opportunities could bring better results.
If you’re trying to target market where much of the work is done on a contract or interim basis, the flexibility of an umbrella company could be key to success, Mr Pullman added. The truth is that there is little to nothing you can lose by using an umbrella company, so not using every tool at your disposal isn’t the best way to go about seeking work.
