The last three months has seen an increase of three per cent in recruitment for temporary workers across almost the entirety of the UK, a new survey shows.
New research figures from Venn Group, a recruitment specialist firm, has found that the last quarter has seen the number of interim workers, such as freelancers and umbrella service contractors, go up in every region in the country save London. The drop in the capital’s temp worker rate, a sizable reduction of 15.5 per cent, was contributed primarily to the drop off in demand after the end of London Olympic Games.
Venn Group’s research also discovered that hiring rates within the public sector have also increased over the past three months by a 14.3 per cent margin, while vacancies within the financial services sector have declined by 16.4 per cent throughout the quarter as well. There are now 10 per cent fewer vacancies within financial firms than there were in January of 2012, according to the recruitment specialist.
Robert Bowyer, director for Venn Group, commented on the research findings, remarking that, among every region, sectors that are doing remarkably well include digital and information technologies. Firms that had no choice but to scale back their spending at the height of the economic downturn have now also changed their tune, Mr Bowyer added, stating that infrastructure investment has increased and is expected to continue to do so over the course of 2013.
