If you’re looking to start your own business or begin working as a self-employed freelancer, the capital is the place to be, says PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
The latest PwC research study declared London to be a ‘hotbed of opportunity’ for entrepreneurs, contractors, and freelancers. In fact, the capital is now tied for first place globally, holding the top honours with New York, a jump of three spots from fourth place in last year’s PwC study.
The capital’s prospects have been excellent so far, even as the rest of the country is still gripped by a double-dip recession that has been difficult to emerge from. However, economists say that both the Summer Olympics and the Paralympics both buoyed the London economy, encouraging growth and leading to an environment that welcomed new entrepreneurs and umbrella company contractors.
PwC London practice partner, David Snell, commented on the new findings, remarking that the current year has been an extraordinary one in the history of the capital. Mr Snell said that there’s little to no doubt whatsoever that London is not just an easy place to do business but one of the leading financial centres across the globe.
However, London isn’t exclusively the home of financial service firms, the PwC partner said. In fact, the cultural centres of the city were put in the spotlight during the Olympics, along with the excellence in infrastructure that London-area construction and fabrication experts displayed as well.
However, there is still work to be done to improve connectivity and infrastructure within London if he city is to keep its top spot on other global centres of employment, according to Mr Snell.
