HMRC is urging employees, sole traders, limited company contractors and umbrella company workers to contact them if they believe they have received an incorrect tax code this year.
The government department recently transferred to a new national insurance and PAYE service and during the transition period tax coding errors appeared. People who have received an incorrect coding could end up paying too much tax from 6th April.
If you have any doubts about your tax code you should check the guidance notes included with your coding notice or visit the HMRC website for further information. If, after checking the guidance, you still feel your tax code is incorrect, or you do not understand an entry, you should telephone HMRC either on 0845 3000 627 or the number on your tax coding advice.
