Do you work in the manufacturing sector as a freelancer or an umbrella company contractor? Congratulations: you’re about to be quite busy very soon.
At least, that’s if the latest research Markit research study can be believed. The new data says that the industry is strengthening by a wide margin, and that job creation is being stimulated by this in a major way. in other words, firms are looking to increase capacity while upping their production – and that means you’ll be busier than a one-legged man in an arse-kicking contest if this turns out to be a true and accurate representation of the near future.
The first quarter of 2014 saw increases to both new orders and production through to March, but that’s not all: output was up year-on-year as well because of the glut of new orders coming in. The only thing that wasn’t encouraging in the report was that 2013’s second half saw drop offs in new business and output rates.
This is of course what’s driving the hiring frenzy at the moment. Manufacturing firms that lack capacity to keep up with demand are going to attempt to bounce back in a major way by hiring on everyone they need to keep their entire staff busy and productive. It’s the only way to remain competitive in a global marketplace like we’re in right now – and it’s not like the world is going to become anything but more interconnected as time goes by, making it even more imperative that we can handle things.
Honestly it’s nice to see manufacturing in the UK making a comeback. I can only hope that it grows strong and prosperous, especially on British soil. For what it’s worth I think there’s simply too much of a focus on the service industry in modern society so it’s always gratifying to see a movement turning back to what made this country an economic powerhouse in its own right.
