It’s a happy season indeed for IT contractors and other umbrella company workers in the information technology field, according to a new report from Adzuna.
The online jobs search engine recently found that it has been a fantastic year for anyone working in the IT sector, thanks to rampant growth in online shopping, tablets, and smartphone apps. In fact, in excess of one million IT specialist positions were available for freelancers and permanent workers alike over the course of 2012, with the last six months of the year seeing salaries undergoing an average increase of six per cent to reach almost £40,000 a year.
The information technology sector is one of the few industries that makes full use of skilled, experienced freelance workers with specialised knowledge of mobile working that stay on the cutting edge of current technology such as Android-based tablets, cloud computing, and social networking. However, the IT industry isn’t the only one that grew over the past 12 months, with the health sector adding more than 700,000 advertised jobs on Adzuna alone.
These new figures follow on the heels of an independent report released by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation that found businesses intend to hire in robust amounts in the New Year. The majority of firms have pans to either increase the number of contract workers they have or at least maintain their current employment figures, the REC found.
