Contractors may be among those to benefit from additional opportunities as more businesses in the UK take to the cloud.
The London School of Economics and Political Science said recently that developments in the cloud will increase productivity, promote economic growth and change the skills needed by businesses.
The university investigated the impact cloud computing was having on the smartphone services industry. It discovered that job creation will grow by 349% in the next four years, as we come to depend more on cloud technologies. The school claimed that at least four thousand jobs will be created within the smartphone sector alone.
However, in order to get the full benefit from the cloud, the government must improve education and provide opportunities for e-skills retraining. Companies must also receive incentives for adopting green energy practices and data transfer policies must not impede the progress of the sector.
John Vassallo. Microsoft’s VP of EU affairs, explained that cloud computing is impacting the world of work across many industries. People need a new set of skills in order to take advantage of the employment and growth opportunities.
Europe is well placed to capture the potential of the cloud, he continued. Emerging cloud services will benefit SMEs as well as creating new businesses.
He went on to say that cloud computing is already creating jobs through the construction, supply and staffing of cloud hosting data centres. The cloud frees up managers and skilled employees to concentrate on more profitable tasks to make the business more productive.
