Employers make use of umbrella service contractors in nearly every sector, but one of fastest growing uses for freelancers and contract workers is to carry out change management for businesses, a new survey says.
Change management is big business, especially in the current economic landscape, as businesses need new and innovative approaches to problems such as how to maximise returns with limited resources. Interim workers are being snapped up left and right to provide these change management services, according to Russam GMS, the recruiter that conducted the survey, found that only 13 per cent of its roles are now filled by clients looking for filling up gaps.
19 per cent of survey respondents said that nearly every single assignment they pick up are within the field. Another 17 per cent of contract workers reported a moderate amount of change management work as well.
Russam GMS chairman, Charles Russam, commented on the research findings, stating that chief executives are turning to freelance change management experts in increasing numbers in order to aid them in handling their most difficult challenges they face today. One of the leading reasons of this is because the majority of permanent staff employed by UK businesses do not have the requisite skills and experience to effect change.
Over 12,000 contract workers took part in the survey, indicating that the sheer volume of those working within the sector – and by extension, the number of businesses in dire need of change management experts – has grown to quite burgeoning levels. This is just more evidence that interim work through an umbrella company is an effective way to seek employment.
