Good morning. We have a pool at a property just outside the city and the existing fence is a chain link thing that ruins the view of the garden and is starting to rust at the base. I have been looking at glass as a replacement. My questions are practical: does it meet the safety requirements, does it get filthy with splashing and sun cream, and how does it stand up if a branch comes down on it during a storm? There are children in the house during the summer, so this is not something I want to get wrong or put off until next year.

Glass meets the safety rules as long as the height, gaps and gate hardware are done to code, and that is worth confirming with whoever quotes you rather than assuming. It does show water spots and hand marks, so you will clean it more than a chain link fence, which nobody ever cleaned. Storm resistance is better than people assume since it is tempered and properly supported in spigots. We looked at glass swimming pool fences with Glass Factory and the gate hardware was the part that took the most discussion. Budget for the gate properly, that is where the safety compliance actually lives. Check the local rules before you order anything.
